What to Expect

Welcome, we’re so glad you’re here and would love to meet you in person this Sunday.  Hopefully these Q+A’s will help you form a good picture of what coming on a Sunday morning would be like…
What kind of church is FBC?

FBC stands for First Baptist Church, which is located in semi-rural, semi-suburban, Sycamore, Illinois.  We are a Bible-believing, Baptist Christian church, rich with history and invested in the next generation.  We currently have about 150 attendees on a Sunday morning, between our two services.  When you come on a Sunday, you’ll encounter a friendly, small-town atmosphere and a passion for global missions.

What are the services like?

When you visit on a Sunday morning, you have a choice of two services: 9:00 and 10:30. We hope that both make you feel comfortable and help you worship the Lord and learn from his Word; however, if you prefer a certain style, there are a few differences between them.  If you’re an early riser or prefer to sing hymns, you might be more partial to the 9:00, traditional service.  On the other hand, if you like your beauty sleep or prefer a more modern musical sound, you might be more inclined to the 10:30, contemporary service.  Both services include the same announcements and sermons.  Though most people choose one service they primarily attend, you will often see people attend different services on different weeks based on their schedules.

What happens in between services?

Between the two services is fellowship time.  This is a great time to see people in the church family who attend a different service or to connect with those attending the same service.  There is coffee and hot chocolate area in the lobby where many people spend time catching up.

What should I wear?

You are welcome to wear whatever style of clothing makes you feel the most comfortable when worshiping the Lord.  Both services have a business casual atmosphere, but you will often find people dressed in jeans and tee-shirts sitting next to people in their Sunday best.  In general, the 9:00 service is a tad more formal in dress and the 10:30 more casual, but you are certainly welcome in any dress at both.

What is available for children on Sunday morning?

Nursery childcare is available during both the 9:00 and 10:30 services for children ages newborn through 3.  Children 4 and over are welcome to stay with their parents during the service or to dismiss to children’s church after the first few songs.

Do you have an interpreter for those who are hard-of-hearing?

Yes, an interpreter is present at the 10:30 service for those who would like sign language.
